Needle and Moss TOMATO-TOMAHTO Cross Stitch Pattern

This stitch is my favorite piece to date and a lot of planning and love went into making it happen. As a new-ish designer, I wanted to get on the sampler bandwagon and I love a good red sampler. But - how could I make it my own?

Inspired by my grandmother's collection of stitching notions, I decided that my entry into the sampler world needed to be a tomato. A red, sampler tomato. Everything we love about the stitching aesthetic in one place. And here she is - ripe and ready for you to enjoy.

The chart includes two designs - the panels needed to make the band sampler tomato as well as the flat band sampler using the same alphabet and motifs if you'd like a little warm up. Choose your tomato adventure but know that the shaped finish isn't as tough as it looks. If you've made a biscornu, you'll find this very similar. There's a full photo finishing guide included and I recorded the whole process so watch out for a video tutorial coming soon.

I stitched the tomato on 36 count Red Rose linen from Number 12 Stitch Co and her finished size is about 4.5" tall, 6" across, with a circumference of 16".

The printed pattern will be available at Nashville Needlework Market 2026, so ask your LNS or ONS to find it for you through Hoffman Distributing or here on my wholesale shop!
